Brace yourself! says the ocean relentlessly. We at Sea Stories say the same, as we set sail our Autumnal issue to its destination: you, our readers. Brace yourself for a stimulating voyage. We’ve plotted, we believe, a fascinating course through the riled waters of seasonal change on our planet—autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, spring arriving below the Equator. We take you through the turn of the year, across the churning tides—and sometimes below into the deep blue—with a stunning array of words and images from our contributing writers and artists in this, our third issue of the journal. From Cape Hatteras to Cape Cod, from Alaska to Argentina to Antarctica, you’ll make a whale of a journey. Did we say whale? Yes, as in the “sixty tons of tough gray body” to which poet Marilyn Peretti introduces you in her poem “Underwater Family.” And other leviathans as well, all captured in the captivating portfolio With Whales. You’ll encounter other mammals, too: a dolphin here, a seal there. And Homo sapiens, such as Bruce Sweet’s angling ancestors in his “Tales of a Grandfather”… a typical yet unique mother in Melanie Faith’s “Emptying-Out Place,” who reminds us all of the restorative powers of the Earth’s seascapes…and the “wealth of friends” found in Charles Adés Fishman’s poem “Sleeping Near Water” (in the portfolio Five by Fishman). Come, explore! Dive into the poems, essays, artwork and photography that lie a quick click away. Don’t miss a page. Follow your bliss; we have.
